The Energy-Saving Features of Our Replacement Windows

The right kind of replacement windows can improve your home’s energy efficiency and result in energy savings. Home improvement expert Nuss Construction Company shares a look at how energy-efficient replacement windows work.

The Energy Envelope

To understand how windows contribute to energy efficiency, we must first take a look at the energy envelope. It consists of the exterior walls, the roof and fenestrations, including the doors, skylights and windows. All of these components create an insulated enclosure that should minimize heat transfer, which causes heat loss during cold days and heat gain during hot days. When this happens, more heating and cooling will be required to compensate for the temperature difference, resulting in increased energy consumption.

While conventional insulation (such as batt, foam or loose fill) is used on roofing and exterior walls, the same isn’t applicable to windows since they’re mostly made of glass. This makes traditional windows that feature single-pane glass a problem since glass is a naturally conductive material. Combined with unreliable frame materials like aluminum or untreated wood, having such windows in your home will cause increases in your energy consumption. Single-pane window glass also makes the areas around it too hot during summer and too cold during winter.

Our Energy-Efficient Replacement Windows

Nuss Construction Company offers energy-efficient replacement windows, which feature insulated glass panels. Two glass panels, separated by an insulated spacer system, eliminates contact between interior and exterior glass surfaces, which dramatically reduces conduction. Our double-pane Low-E glass also features low-emissivity coatings that selectively block infrared and ultraviolet (UV) rays. This means in addition to enjoying lots of natural light indoors, you also won’t have to worry about heat from the sun or faded fabrics and furniture.

The double-pane glass assembly is complemented by the insulated vinyl frames. In addition to being available in custom sizes and a wide selection of colors, vinyl frames require minimal maintenance. We make sure the new windows are installed properly to ensure an airtight, long-lasting fit. All of our replacement windows are tested and rated by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) for energy efficiency.
